The Mei Tei is a traditional Asian baby wearing design that we at SBS have taken one step further to meet the demands of today’s parents. It is the world's incredible utility sling...the "tool belt" for baby life!

A taller body. The SBS sling starts with a taller body (24 inches). This translates into better head support for your baby, whether a newborn, a sleeping toddler or a nursing baby. (The body of the carrier can be adjusted for your newborn by simply folding the waist over.)
A contoured body. The body of the carrier is also contoured to fit the body of your child, allowing your child to comfortably enjoy the ride in a sitting position earlier than with other mei teis. For older children, the contoured body ensures additional comfort on their legs and helps eliminate the red marks other square mei teis may leave. The contoured body also provides better ventilation for both your baby and yourself – an especially important comfort for those extended babywearing times! The body also has a rounded head because your baby’s head is rounded and needs that extra support and comfort.
A usable hood with magnetic closure. This hood is awesome and we are proud to say that! Besides being coordinated with whichever side of the mei tei you are wearing, this hood is multi-functional. We made the hood large enough to completely seclude baby by making the sure the hood has sides. This means that the hood can be used to give you privacy while nursing (a must if your baby is easily distracted in public), used to help keep baby asleep longer, and also used to protect baby from the elements. The hood easily zips out if you don’t want it, but best of all, it neatly tucks into the top of the mei tei so when you don’t want it to show, no one even knows it is there!
Extra long top straps. 85 inches Standard. Our company was founded by a babywearer. We have found that the best way to tie a mei tei while wearing your baby in front is to do a “twist” (also known as a “Lexi twist”). But we also know that most mei tei straps are too short to do this twist. We are concerned about your baby’s safety and comfort so that is why we wanted to make sure that strap length would not come in the way of either.
Extra wide top straps. 10 inches Standard. We wanted to bring you the best of both worlds – the coziness of a wrap and the ease of a mei tei. Thus we made all of our straps wider – at 10 inches at the shoulder. This means that your baby’s weight is better distributed across your shoulders and your back. We also contoured the straps to go narrower at the bottom so there will be less bulk when tying them.
The pouch. Babywearing is great, except where do you put your keys? An extra diaper? A credit card? Well we have the answer. Each of our mei tei’s comes with a coordinating pouch that clips onto the lower straps of the mei tei, on either side.
The secret compartment. Sometimes you just want to take a credit card. Or have your business cards handy. In the top part of the mei tei is a secret, zippered compartment that is ready to be used for either of these purposes, or any others you can think of!
It’s fully reversible. Each side of our mei tei’s uses the same signature Amy Butler pattern that you have chosen for the body and the straps. Then we do double duty and give you a second choice of Amy Butler patterns for the reverse side of the mei tei. In other words, you get two mei teis in one!
